Kuderemukh National Park is well known for its natural beauty which is covered with lushy green vegetation. The national park is located near Chikamagalur which is 96 km from Mangalore. It is one of the most famous tourist spot near Mangalore.
The forest spreads across 600 Sq Km in the western Ghats. The hill peak resembles a horse, hence it is named Kudremukh (Kannada- Kudre: horse Mukh- face).
The national park consists of four mountain ranges – Kerekatte, Kalasa, Shimoga range and Kudremukh. The national park is surrounded by coffee and tea estates. It is also the birthplace for many rivers like Tunga, Badra and Netravathi. The main attraction of the national park is that it houses a Varaha statue which is found inside the caves of the park. Large number of people visit this forest from all over the world. The park also houses a temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi. The park is a home for many wild animals that include jackal, leopards, tigers, sloth bear and different species of deer. You can also find many endangered and rare birds such as Malabar whistling, imperial pigeon and Malabar trogan.
